refurbished or rebuilt ?

friends volvo-penta is all broke up and he decided to replace it rather than repair (dropped enough $s into it ). he found some duo-props on the net, some are rebuilt, some refurbished. whats the difference if any ? thanks fred

In the case of outdrives,<br />I would Think that remanufactured, refurbished,+ rebuilt would All be words to describe the Same Outdrive.................

It's sometimes just symantics. <br /><br />Technically.... Refurbished is simply disassembly, replacing seals and anything that looks worn, reassembly and sometimes a paint job.<br /><br />Remanufactured is a teardown and replacement of all the inner "wearable" parts. Usually the case would be dipped and painted. Basically new, but some reused pieces.<br /><br />Bottom line.... you'll have to ask a few questions to know for sure what they are selling.

Thankyou you for all of your response. not my boat but been on my lift so much that it may as well be. when is the time for my friend to cut his losses? got the chaparrel at a bargain price but his headaches and $$$ have added up to much more than the boat is worth. its a shame, all the outboards are running fine on the weekends and he nurses this boat from his canal to mine. anybody got any words of wisdom ?? when do you call it quits ??? fred

humm ive got an IO 800 hours, raw water cooled, whole life spent in saltwater, runs fine, works great. Sounds like your friend bought a boat that wasnt well taken care of. Sometimes not such a good deal.Think IO's cost alot to maintain? Wait until he gets an outboard with problems.
