Looking at an abandoned boat. Tenant was evicted and boat was left behind, property owner is giving it away. What is required to get it registered if I were to take ownership?
boat has a CF number.

Property owner applies for abandoned property title, don't think you can legally as it wasn't abandoned on your property

You may be able to register it in Vermont if it’s 15 years old to get a title. But it might get sticky if your re reg in cali since they keep good records. However I would also make sure that it was legally obtained by the person you are getting it from. Or even if it’s good enough to be worth getting

You can’t legally take possession of that boat or register it In California. The property owner cannot just give it away. The property owner may be able to take possession but there is a legal process to follow. Rather than consult an attorney and have to pay legal fees , call the local county sheriffs office. They are responsible for abandoned/derelict boats on waterways and can assist you in your situation for one abandoned on someone else’s property.
Before you get into this make sure the boat is salvageable. Most abandoned or derelict boats are real pieces of garbage. They cannot be raised from the dead.
