I'm sure someone here knows the answer to this: I want to buy a used boat for my son and grandson to use. The one I was looking at is a 12' jon boat that was only used as a rowboat and never registered. If I get this boat, and then want to add an outboard, will I be able to get it registered with it's own FL numbers? The original owner has the bill of sale from when he got the boat, but there's no indication of reg numbers. What to do?

If you have the original bill of sale from when it was NEW and a bill of sale from that original owner, you should be good to go for a title and subsequent registration.

If the current owner has a bill of sale from another private party, it gets a lot more complicated.

In FL, a title is required, not just a registration. And getting a title for an untitled boat with a chain of prior owners is DIFFICULT, requiring a court order.

Call your local tax collector. Each county has slightly different requirements.
