Finally got my alpha drive back together and bolted back on boat, i have the shifter in forward when i installed. Once bolts are tight i can shift a few times from drive to neutral to reverse and then it hangs up in forward and binds. I pull drive back slightly and looks like roller is not staying in that spot on the cable. The cable had a blue casing right there that looks broke but cable is not frayed. Do you think it could be sliding out causing the swiveling roller to be pushed out of alignment.

I would get the "NEWEST" OEM Merc shift cable. It lists for around $63. But the inner cable is teflon coated and works much easier and lasts a lot longer than the standard SS cable sold by Sierra and older Merc cables.
The Merc number is 865436A02
