Hi all,
I'm in the process of rebuilding my 175, after a "mechanic" blew it up in his shop by running it without oil.

I have had a few questions, and now I have another. When I disassembled the relief valve, I noticed that the little screw that holds the poppet to the diaphram didn't have any washer. The diaphram was only held by the head of the screw. I cleaned everything up and replaced the gaskets and reassembled. It was kind of hard, because the screw head wanted to pull thru the diaphram if I let the spring go.

Everything seemed to be working fine before the motor fried, but it seemed there should be a washer under the head of the screw. I looked at a schematic, and lo and behold, it calls for a washer. But I have also noticed many differences on other parts when I enter my serial number to bring up a parts diagram, so I don't always trust them to be entirely accurate. The guy who owned the boat before me said he never touched the relief valve, so it came like this from the factory.

Does everyone have a washer that sits in front of the diaphram under the screw? Anyone care to guess about what size the OD is if there is one?

I have the type of relief valve that has 4 screws, and requires 2 gaskets. Is it normal to have to "load" the spring to install it? Its been a while since I removed it, and I want to make sure I have it re-installed correctly.

I have "hopefully" attached a link to a parts diagram, mine is the top one shown of the 3 types.

Thanks,
Rich
