Quick question about horsepower difference. My previous engine was a 1995 4.3GL Cobra (really a VP) with a 2 bbl carb. Paperwork provided by the original owner says it was 160 HP. My newly installed 4.3 Vortec reman long block (VMC7) looks as though it is 205 HP from what I've researched on the web. Shop didn't provide any documentation other than the P/N VMC7 on the invoice. Is there really a 45HP increase on the new engine or do you think 205 HP is with the 4bbl carb? My engine has the 12 bolt intake.

Ayuh,.... The horsepower is determined by it's induction system,.....

'n how it was rated, 'n when,....

I called the manufacturer and they could not (would not) commit to specifics. Only that they remanufactured to original specs.Sooo, I'm guessing that original engine (43APHUB, 160 HP) is not the same as new VMC7 as far as horsepower.

Ayuh,..... As I said, the different horsepower ratin's are by the induction system used,......

A 2bbl. carb, low horsepower,....
A 4bbl. carb, Higher horsepower,....
Efi, higher yet,...
Mpi, higher yet,....

'n the Time frame of the ratin's,....
Used to be rated at the crankshaft, then the propshaft, or vice-versa,....

The 205hp, is/ was with a 4bbl. carb, back in the early '90s,.... I have one,...

The Vortec heads, Are worth an honest 15/ 20 horsepower though,...
