Hi All

I have a 2008 volvo Penta 5.7 OSI that had just been replaced (by myself) with a remanufactured one. Has taken me a few weeks in my spare time.

I'm trying to start it and getting nowhere. Engine was supposedly delivered at TDC and I made sure to put the distributor pointing at no 1 spark cable.

I also splashed out on the Diacom Marine software to aid diagnosis in times of trouble.

Put a brand new $800 fuel pump on as last one was blowing fuse. No I am getting no spark, noting from any HT Leads or even the cable going from coil to distributor.

Being the clutz that I am, I found out I have left the camshaft position sensor outside the distributor. Would this stop it from sparking. I metered the cables going to the coil and the main cable has 12 volts going to it for a few seconds when you switch the ignition on, then no volts at all during cranking. So I assume I need to find out why its getting no volts.

I have attached pictures of the camshaft sensor which I will put into distributor tomorrow, ignition coil and the screenshot of diacom marine software which shows no error codes.

PLEASE can you guys help me solve this, its very frustrating. I do have service manuals etc but think I need some advice from people with experience hence my visit here, this seems to be the most knowledgable forum I have found,

thanks in advance for all help received.

I wouldn't trust that is was delivered with it TDC of the compression stroke. They could have just put it at TDC and you are 50/50 if its on the compression or exhaust. Easy enough to check it yourself.

yes, the camshaft sensor is needed for the engine to run
always get the engine to TDC yourself. just shipping alone could be enough to move it from TDC
