i blew the 350 on my renken, cracked the block internally, and im looking for some replacements. i got some quotes for new marine engines, such as an eagle, for around 3500. but i can get a remanufactured engine from rapido for around 1400. im thinking the rebuilt engine is only as good as the guy rebuilding it, and ive heard great things about rapidos in miami, but ive also heard really bad things about remans in general.

are they jsut trying to sell me a new engine? or is it worth it to get the new one?

both have the same warranty

advice?

You answered your own question. Reman is only as good as the rebuilder, their definition of rebuilt and the techs who do the work. If they have a long and all inclusive warranty, that MIGHT be a sign that they do fine work. I only know 1 person who bought a reman 305 engine from ebasicpower.com. He's got 200 hours on it without any issue whatsoever. I'm not familiar with the companies you mentioned. Hope it helps.

like ya said it all depends on the rebuilder. I have bought reman engines that were not worth the cost of the paint. I have rebuilt them 10 years ago that still go today. look into the merc reman center. so far mostly good luck and excellent service on the 2 that I had no luck :) :) . both went in the same 33 wellcraft and both had high oil pressure. the third one they sent was a charm and worked great until the boat stove up at oregon ilet and sank. the warrenty expired that day. but merc paid for all the parts and labor for both the bad long block swaps. I just could not get the oil pressure below 80PSI on the first 2.
