just recieved my new 9.9 yamaha full remote with elec start and tilt and trim. Will be hanging it on a toon. Question, can a halfway handy dummy like me hook it up or should I have the dealer do it. No steering involved ,just the ignition, throttle, shift and tilt trim.will be using the supplied Yamaha control unit. Problem is both time and cost, they cant get to it for quite a while and I need it soon. Will cable length and adjustments be relatively streightforward??? Any real tricky install quirks? Thanks

Nothing tricky. Just hang it, mount the controls and hook up your battery. It should be very straight forward. If you need longer cables then you will have to order a set. Will it be the primary power or used as a kicker?

thanks, its a kicker on a pontoon Is there any shift-throttle-linkage adjustment or is it all preset?

No -- it is not all pre-set. Both throttle and shift cable adjustments will be required. This can be done just before you attach the cables to the engine. The short version of this procedures is:

1) Control box in neutral and fast idle lever (if equipped) down.
2) Shift linkage on engine in neutral
3) Throttle linkage on engine against the idle stop.
4) Bring shift cable end up to its linkage attachment point on the engine. If the cable and linkage are not in perfect alignment adjust the trunion (the threaded mount on the cable end) until they do. Then attach the cable to the linkage and trunion to the mount.
5) Repeat step 4 for the throttle linkage.

DO NOT push or pull anything to make the cables line up. If you do you will end up with improper throttle and or shift operation.

The cables will need to be long enough and routed such that the engine can swing right and left without stressing the cables. Better to be too long than too short.
