I have a 2005 Mercruiser 4.3L with a difficult to reach oil filter. Has anyone installed a remote unit. At almost $300 the OEM kit seems a little high compared to automotive kits. Also the pictures I've seen mount the filter upside down.

You can pick up a new kit off EBay for alot less.
I've seen the automotive kits, stay away from them. Even if the filter mounts upside down, use a plastic bag over the mount and filter to catch the spillage.

I have removed a bunch of those automotive (Cheap) kits because they leak, one guy lost an engine when he didn't notice his oil pressure went to zero.
To install the OEM kit, (any kit most likely) you will probably have to pull the engine. Just a complete lack of room to do the work.

Best thing I ever did. No more scatched up knuckles or weird contortions trying to reach it.
I used one from HERE . Ya, ya, i know, it's "automotive". I checked them all out, and there is little or no difference in the QUALITY kits.

The filter mount is in the lower right of the picture.
