Can anyone tell me what year motors are both remote/tiller, or what year they quit being both? I'm having trouble finding a short shaft remote steer for a vintage alumacraft I bought. Also, other than the old johnson controls, which ones can be switched to left side. The steering wheel and control bracket are on the left side of this boat. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: remote steer/tiller

Not quite sure which engine size you are talking about, but all tiller models may in general be modified to remote operation by adding a kit.
On which side of the boat the controls are does not matter, that is just an 'adjustment' in the remote control and shifting cable position in the steering wheel helm.
If looking for conversion kits for Evinrude/Johnson, go to:
http://shop.evinrude.com
View the catalog.
Choose Accessories from the drop-down menu
Choose year

I'm not sure which engine, that's what I'm trying to figure out. Looking for one to buy. I thought the older ones could be used both ways, tiller and remote, without having to add a conversion kit? Can the newer style controls, say 1995-2000 be adjusted to mount on left side of boat also? Again any info I can get helps, I appreciate your time and help.

Just to move the handle from one side to the other.
There are however 'cheap' aftermarket controls that are specific stb or port side mounting.
