I think the answer is NO, but I thought I'd ask. if i undid the 8 nuts holding the housing to the powerhead (or vice versa), can the house fall away and the power hear stay up, or is the housing all that is holding the powerhead up?
Just trying to avoid hoisting the powerhead (don't have a hoist) if there is a work around (like supporting the weight of the powerhead and dropping the housing instead).

Thanks.

It would be nice to know what motor.

Generally, the upper and lower motor mounts hold the midsection to the transom clamp. The gearcase and powerhead bolt to the midsection.

If you unbolt the gearcase, the driveshaft will come with it.

I ended up lifting thrower head (only way to get to the shift shaft (tip level on the shaft shaft is pinned…bottom is jammed on and cannot be removed without full access (for heat, tapping to remove)…

Note for fire: Oder the gasket ASAP and make sure you order the right one, lest you lose 2 weeks waiting for a new gasket.

FYI: those wondering, the roll pin in the bottom female-splined coupling is not to hold the coupling on…it just limits how far the coupling can be pushed onto the shift shaft…drive until it bumps (and don’t bother trying to remove the original pin prior to removal…mine was one-way, and I ending up drilling it out only to discover that it wasn’t doing anything.
