Hi everyone,

I am a new boater and purchased my first boat this summer; a 2000 Glastron SX-170 with a 2000 Johnson 115 2 stroke. I have learned a so much from this forum, love it.

My question is: I just had my local marine winterize the motor for $100, which I thought was reasonable. This included changing lower unit oil, fogging cylinders, stablilze fuel, disconnect battery, grease prop shaft. I removed the battery, however, do I also remove the external oil tank? If not, do I replace with fresh oil in the spring? I am still a rookie, so please dont rip me too bad!!! Thanks in advance.

More questions to come!

Re: Remove external oil tank?

It's a very good idea to remove, drain, and clean the filter on the oil tank each year. Condensation can create a puddle of gunk in the tank which gets sucked into the fuel system. Its not a big deal to clean it. Fill it with fresh oil in the spring and be sure to squeeze the bulb to make sure the engine has oil at restart time.
