The seal comes with the kit and it is a bear to remove. I worked on mine all weekend and swore it was part of the bearing cage. The tool that worked for me was a combination pliers. The standard pliers that has two settings. Keep working at it and be careful to not nick the edges too bad on the bearing cage. Also remember which side the spring around the seal is on. It must go back on the same way. Putting the new one on is easy. Put the cage on a cement floor and use a deep socket to pound it in. Also make sure you use anti sieze compound on the prop bearing when you put it back on.
Sounds like you are talking about the one at the bottom where the gears are. I was talking about the one just below the water pump on the drive shaft. It has like a metal colar which can be bent very easily. I could be wrong, this is all new to me. Just next to that one is also one with a metal cap, which the gear bar runs through. Do the kit come with the metal parts and seal, or should I keep these metal parts in good condition to put back in with the new seal.

Any idea

Cheers
The seals will have that metal rim. Usually you pry them out with a screwdriver. The drive shaft one and the shifer seal are usually pretty easy to get out. When you use the screw driver try and keep it from scratching the lower unit housing. Use a vise with wood in it to make a stand for the lower unit so it is steady on a work bench. When you pry with the screw driver use a small piece of wood as a fulcrum and only insert the tip far enough into the seal to pop it out.
I did the screw driver thing and got them out. But I did scratch the housing, hopefully not too much to affect the seal with the new one. I did this before your reply, guess I should have waited.

Cheers,
i ordered the seal kit, hopefully these seals will come with it also. I ordered through a dealer here in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I am going there today to confirm the seal kit comes with all seals upper and lower.

Cheers,
