Hey folks, went to drop the LU and it comes down about an inch, then stops.
Moving the gear shifter helps a little, but not much.
I don't see a coupler at the shift rod, doesn't come down enough to see anything.
My smaller motors drop enough to uncouple, but this one doesn't.
Looked at the Crowley parts blowups of the 20" LU and Mid sections and don't even see the rod listed.
Probably simple (hope), please advise.
Thanks !

First post the model #-----But I think it is as simple as removing a hitch pin and pushing on and rotating a lever to disconnect the shift rod.----And don't use a hammer for this simple procedure.

Put one bolt back in to hold lower unit in place.-----Stand on the starboard side of the motor.------Find the L-shaped shaft that goes under the bottom carburetor.-----Remove hitch pin on that shaft.----Push that shaft to the port side and rotate.-----Shift rod is now disconnected.

Thank you , thank you !
I go look now.
No coupling/lap to fool with, cool.
Hope I don't need a backhoe to dig a hole, lol.
Thanks again bud,
W
did find the rod in the diagram, looked like it went all the way up, but didnt show the connection.

That went very well ! Was surprised it lined back up as well as it did. I knew I had rotated the rod/dog leg and was anticipating a headache getting it latched back in. Lined right up !
Started it to check the new water pump impeller and when I pushed the key in to choke it, fuel was seeping out around the base of the red knob. Is this a manual override ?
Or a bleeder ? There is a Schrader valve in it ..... what is the NOP for this guy ?
Looks like I just need to change the O-ring (53) to stop the leak, but am wondering about the rest of its intended operation.
Thanks

The red lever is for manual operation of the valve should you have a dead battery.-----Yes this motor will start / run with a dead battery.-----The shreader valve allows you to inject engine tuner or storage oil while motor s running.

Gotcha !
Now it turns from seated closed to about 90 degrees open.
I assume there are stop lugs for the red plastic lever underneath .... which is split on one side. Do I splay the plastic to get it off ? and the valve out ? Or does it slide off ?
Quite tight, doesn't want to slide and I don't want to break it ... being so old (not me, the red part)
Thanks again !

Get yourself a rebuild kit for the primer.
It will be pretty much self explanatory from there.

just buy an OEM brp/ nos kit, not that really cheap crap! Sierra works well, too. you have been warned.
