Why take the chance, based on your guys feedback, I am going to remove stat housing poor in the anti-freeze and put the DIY kit on ebay. Question, 5.7 liter and 3.0 liter, there seems to 4 bolts to remove on the 5.7 and 2 on the 3.0. Is it just as easy as it appears to remove them or should I need to anticipate something. Thanks.

Don't be too surprised if one of the bolts break.

why is that, and should I be concerned with cold temps today and unbolting in this weather.

The bolts holding in the housing are notorious for major corrosion. When they're removed, it's not uncommon to break one or two, common as the sun rising.

Email me , I'll call you.

I have to agree. If you can, remove the hose and "trickle" the anti-freeze in.

But if you decide to remove the housing, replace the bolts with stainless ones.

Thanks so much, I;ll pull hoses. Hope this isn't a new thread but to get the hoses off, any easy way. They are bracketed on, that's easy enough to loosen, however that hose is really snug. I'm thinking heating up with a hair blower to soften rubbber at bit.

What are you going to do if your Stat takes a crap? Pull the damn bolts. I've never had a problem, and it I did, I sure would want to fix it NOW, not on the water middle of summer.....just my 2 cents

Summerwind, My 4.3Lx V6 has two 3/8" bolts on the thermostat. They came out w/o incident. if yours appear to be rusted on, use some heat and an impact driver (hand or air) to try to break 'em loose. Use some "antiseize" compound or some permatex #2 when you reassemble.
