Could somebody please help me with the removal of the transom bracket ( 1989 60 hp mariner ) I'm switching a trim unit from one motor to another that has the clamp on transom bracket which will not take the trim unit. I've heard you have to remove the power head as the shift rod runs down the swivel tube.My terminology is probably way off but hope you can understand what I mean. Thanks

Re: Remove swivel transom bracket

I am not 100% familar with your 60 HP motor. On my Merc IL6, you remove the powerhead, lower unit and exhaust extension to free up the upper (ride guide) motor mounts, and remove the nuts or retainer on the lower (ride guide) motor mounts. Now you can draw the swivel pin up and out, freeing the midsection.

You may be able to do it without remiving the upper ride guide motor mounts, as well.
