When removing the motor is the tilt and trim unit part of actually lifting the engine off the back of the boat.I am pretty sure I need to disconnect the hydrolic cylinders.I havent found any documentation on this.I am asking because I came across another merc 800 without tilt and trim and I just want to swap motors.Any help from the pro's would be appreciated.
Thanks Guy's...:)

On a standard Merc PTT of the correct type for that motor, there should be 4 hydraulic hoses from the cylinders to the pump inside the boat. Remove these hoses at the pump, and bag the ends to keep out dirt.
If the new motor is about the same year, the PTT unit should swap over. The tilt shocks unbolt and the PTT bracket bolts on, and then the cylinders.

If you want to retain the PTT and just swap out the motor, you can leave the lines connected to the trim cylinders. You do have to unbolt the lower cylinder mounts from the motor AND remove the long thru-bolt that joins both trim cylinder brackets to the motor. Should be able to lift the motor up and away from the motor.
