Do I need to beat the pivot pins towards the port and starboard sides, or in towards the driveline.
The books doesnt say.

Thanks

In toward the ujoints, you will have to turn the steering so the pins will miss the steering fork.
Also be carful. DO NOT use a steel punch or you will expand the end of the soft pin and never get it out.
One other question, why are you removing the whole drive? If it's to change the ujoint bellows or pull the engine, there is a much easier way.

All you need to do is remove the upper gear box. Disconnect the helmut, remove the back cover and disconnect the linkage remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts holding the gear box on, disconnect the bellows and lift it off.
Be sure you get all new orings when it goes back together, and don't loose those shims. Follow your Volvo manual and you shouldn't have any problems.
