Removing a hot-foot gas pedal

hi,
i have a 1987 skeeter bass boat with a 150 evinrude xp engine.

the boat has a hot foot gas pedal. i don't know a whole lot about this sort of thing, but was wondering if its a big deal to detach the pedal and operate from the standard controls again. any advice, tips, etc are greatly appreciated.
