I have a Black & Decker 3/8" drill with a keyless chuck. I need to replace the chuck.I removed the little left hand thread screw from down in the chuck. How does the chuck come off? Thanks.

Insert the short end of a hex (Allen) wrench into the chuck and tighten the chuck. Now rap the handle of the hex wrench with with a sharp quick blow of a hammer to loosen the chuck.

I'm having a problem getting the chuck to tighten down. If I do get it to tighten does it come off clockwise or counter clockwise? Thanks.

Use the biggest hex key that will fit in the chuck and it should be counter clockwise.

Re: removing a keyless chuck on a drill

Got it off. Since my chuck was frozen in the open position, I took my cut-off blade in my 4 1/4" angle grinder, cut the top half of the chuck off. Saw there was a T-40 torks bit hole in the chuck, used my inpact in counter clockwise mode and backed it off.
So I imagine the "proper" way to remove or install theses chucks is to use a long T-40 torks bit in an impact.
Just thought I'd post this incase anyone else has a similiar problem.
Thanks for you help guys.
