Removing a steering wheel

Trying to remove the steering wheel so that i can install the new console on my pontoon. Do i need a wheel puller to get the steering wheel off? This is mechanical steering. thanks in advance

You might. The get corroded on sometimes.<br /><br />There is no trick to it, it's just an interference fit.

Yes, but it could be a BFRM (cousin to BFH).

Back the steering wheel nut off so it's flush with the end of the bolt. With one hand, Pull the wheel toward you and give the nut a real good whack squarely with a steel hammer till it comes off. A little penetrant may help, but this has always worked for me...
