I'm removing the stern drive myself for the first time. looking through the manual it says to apply "white sealing compound for drives" to the 6 studs. what is this stuff?

there is also regular reference to pent grease 828250 - is there a non volvo alternative for this?

thanks!

Penta Grease is any good marine grade grease.
The white stuff I think is something like plumbers putty or sealer.

thanks, looks like merc has something similar. Time is on my side - I'm going to hold off to pull the drive as the season is close to over and there is no pressing need other than my curiosity :)

Just use any marine grease you can find on the 6 studs. I picked up some Quicksilver marine grease locally and use it for almost everything. The idea is to limit corrosion of the 6 nuts so that the drive comes off easy next time around. No "sealant" necessary.
