I have a 1974 mercruiser 302 with an 888 outdrive. I've been slowly getting it working. My last bit to make her seaworthy is, shes taking on water. When shes running she doesnt take on water. But when shes off she does. Upon removal of teh manifolds and risers, I found that it looks like the y-pipe/collector pipe appears to have cracked from poor winterizing. I've looked through my maintenance books and can't find any info on how to remove this. And its difficult to see how it would come out any help?

Look at what you have, Look at where the bolts are that hold it onto the transom shield. Try to remove the bolts. Even if you could get the bolts out, look at the shape of the pipe and the location. Do you think it's physically possible?????????

If I remember right the 888 has a 3 piece Y-pipe.
Might be possible to do it with the engine in the boat.
Don?t get me wrong ---- I?d pull the engine.
But I seem to remember doing flappers with the engine in the boat 25 years ago.
Good Luck Muc
