Removing FI Filters

Whats the recommended way to remove the green fuel injector filters on a Yamaha 0x66? I ended up using the edge of a feeler gauge and prying them off. Is there a better way?

Mine had a fair amount of the fine silver/grey powder that I usually find on the VST filter, so I'm glad I got in there and cleaned them out. Same thing for the pressure regulator filter, it was fairly clogged as well.

Whatever this stuff is, its becoming a hassle to keep everything cleaned up, and the 10 micron racor doesn't appear to be stopping it.

That could be the med pressure fuel pump debris. Are you using E-10 fuel?

What ever you have to do to get them out is best :D

Re: Removing FI Filters

Yep, we are on our third year of E-10. I have to clean out the VST filter every 100 hours or I will start to notice the engine not performing as well as it should. I actually just picked up an extra set of screws for the VST tank cover as I've been in there quite a bit and am worried about the older ones starting to get a little stripped.

I wish there was a better solution to catch this stuff before it hits the VST tank. Whatever this stuff is, its getting by the 10micron Racor, and obviously the engine mounted filter isn't helping things out any.

From looking at their web site I know that Racor makes 2micron filters, but I think that they are designed for diesels. I also question whether the low pressure fuel pumps could pull fuel through a 2 micron filter, so I don't plan on changing anything.
