I was just curious if anyone knew what size the nut was, that is holding the flywheel on? I have a RDS-23. It is a 40 H.P. Johnson. 1961. It is big and I have to buy socket for it.

1-1/16"<br />A good, inexpensive way to hold the flywheel while removing or torquing the flywheel nut is to remove a couple flywheel ring gear bolts and bolt on a steel bar handle with a couple holes drilled in it to suit. You'll only need a pair of decent 1/4"-20 bolts a little longer than the ring gear bolts.

Thanks again Paul, I'll fix the solenoid problem and then I am after changing the coils and points and condenser which I already purchased, just waiting and trying to fix one thing ata time. Thanks for your replies though. I'll have a sweet running machine up and running for my big fishing trip soon. Getting excited!
