Removing jet from carb

I'm in the process of rebuilding the carbs on 1979 Mariner 90 hp inline 6. I can not remove the brass jets from any of the three carbs. Is there a trick to freeing them? I'm afraid to apply too much force as one has already started to deform the slot.

They can get stuck, to where the brass screwdriver slot just tears. Just leave them in and clean the carb that way. It should work just fine. See if you can get the brass plug out of the bottom and top left. That allows easy cleaning of the idle restrictor and main nozzle.
