MY DAD ASKED ME TO FIND OUT IF THERE ARE ANY TRICKS TO REMOVING THE LOWER UNIT ON A 2004 SUZUKI 115HP. ITS NOT SPITTING WATER OUT OF THE HOLE LIKE BEFORE AND BEING 5 YEARS OLD IN FRESH WATER AND SALT WATER ITS ALWAYS FLUSHED OUT WHEN HE GETS HOM AFTER A TRIP. HE'S WANTING TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP. BUT DIDNT NO IF THESE NEWER MOTORS HAVE ANY CERTAIN WAY THE LOWER UNIT HAS TO COME OFF. :rolleyes:

First off NO CAPS in a forum. It makes one think you are yelling.
Secondly, before you remove the lower unit check and see if the telltale hose isn't just clogged. Follow it to the block and remove it, blow some air out - not back to the motor. No prying with sticks or wires - might just make the matter worse. And no ,there aren't any special tricks of the trade on removing the lower unit. There will be a water hose that will need to be disconnected. When the lower unit drops some you will see it. Just take a small pair of needle nose pliers to remove the clip.

Re: Removing Lower Unit

TracieM;

I have read it a bunch on this forum, and I have had to be told a number of times, a factory service manual is worth its weight in gold.

I am anticipating doing the same on my new (for me) 1983 DT50EL for water pump rebuild/parts replacement. I am waiting to find a ?good deal? on E-Bay for a service manual for this motor?.

Good luck, with your project

You might do just as well with a Seloc manual , either in book form or an internet subscription.You might want to check and see if your t stats are clogged up.Be patient with tight screws and bolts , soaking them with Seafoam Deep Creep and tapping on them lightly.
I did a 2004 Merc 25 last year and the bolts were very tight on both the water pump and t stat housing but got them out using my described method.
