I'm removing the lower unit on a 2006 50 hp 4 stroke Mercury. I have the 5 bolts out but I can't find where to disconnect shifter?

Re: Removing Lower Unit

From the manual:

1. Remove (and isolate) spark plug leads from spark plugs.
2. Shift engine into forward gear.
3. Tilt engine to full “Up” position.
4. Remove 4 bolts and washers, two from each side.
5. Remove trim tab.
6. Remove locknut and washer in trim tab recess.
7. Remove gear housing.

The shift shafts are splined together and will separate as you lower the LU.

What is your engine s/n?

If you would like a copy of the manual. send me a PM with an email address and I will forward it to you.

Re: Removing Lower Unit

Thanks for the help. I tapped on it and it came straight off. Every thing I've been reading said there should be a locknut and coupler, but I guess that is old school.
