Removing Mercury Control

Does anyone know how to remove this Mercury control? Do I pull out the whole center button and break it like the Merc. 3000 control or remove the center Mercury emblem?

While in neutral, push the black button in, go to full forward (WOT) carefully pry the black button out. If you don't go to WOT while in neutral, you'll break the button stem ends. The merc 3000 controller works the same way.
