I always use a razor blade (carefully) and WD-40 to loosen it up. Good luck

Napa sells surface prep discs that fit an air tool or an electric drill. The disc will not harm the metal surface just clean it off.

Be careful with a razor blade it will cut into aluminum.

Bob

Spray on Oven cleaner works real good... It has alot of caustic in it which is what the active ingredeant is in the Gasket Remover you buy at the store.... just cheaper... Wire brush on an electric drill also works well.

If you plan to do alot of gasket work... a die-grinder with a scotch-bright disk is the best thing on this planet for the job...

You can get a 90 deg one and the mandrel and a box of disks for about 60 bucks at most autoparts stores....

Hey, If you coat the new gaskets with a thin coat of "chapstick" they will come right off the next time you need to remove them. Remember to coat both sides.
good luck,
BASSONTAP
