Re: Removing Pulleys on Merc 3.0L
Cleaning rusted pulleys -
If you have access to a angle grinder - buy a 4" narrow wire wheel -
not at the hardware store - a good $15 coarse wheel - that will fit down into
pulleys - remove belts -

With good eye and face protection - brush them - pulleys will rotate with
grinder. Give them hell. - Spray with a hard paint, 3 or 4 coats, over 2-3
days. This should fill rust pits.
Degreease pulleys with denatured alcohol before
painting.

All pulleys will come off when bolts are removed - except power steering.

At Harbor Freight or Northern Tools you can buy a power steering pulley
removal - install tool for $20. Not the best- but will work 30 times.

Or at many auto parts stores - they have a loaner for free. A returnable
$20 deposit, with instructions. An air impact wrench helps.

Belts do not pull from bottom of pulley - but from the side of the belt -
At auto parts store do not buy the cheap belt - buy their best.

Paint does not stick to oily metal.
This will work - the easy way.
