My sisters (they are 4 years old) just sprayed spray paint on my dads Ranger boat. It is a fiberglass hull. I just wanna know how I can get the spray paint off without wreaking or staining the hull. Thanks!

Fresh paint may come off with mineral spirits. Got some WD-40? Acetone is a last resort (don't let the rag sit in one spot too long). Nail polish remover with lemon oil if Mom has some. It's just diluted acetone. I shouldn't mention gasoline since it is very flammable, but then so is everything else I mentioned. Be careful, keep away from flame, sparks. Good air circulation! Let the rags evaporate in the sun before throwing them out.

Acetone will normally remove dried bomb can paint, if you leave the acetone on the surface too long it may dull the gel coat a little, if it does just rewax it.

Try Polishing compound befor rubbing compound. The rubbing may be too harsh.

I'd use a chemical before a compound. Very easy to dull the jell coat on metalflake gell coats that have a clear outer layer.

Berryman's chem tool, used to devarnish carbs, will definitely lift the paint. I'd test in in a remote area to see that it doesn't attack the gell coat first. Spray it on; watch the paint lift, and wipe it off. Probably won't hurt the gell coat if you get it on and off and wash the boat good when finished. Local auto parts store carries it.

Same thing happen to me.

The best thing to use is a clay bar kit. you can pick one up in your local auto part store.

You spray on the spray wax and rub the clar bar on it and it comes right off no problems. You can also use this on your car or truck it works great. you will never feel your paint as smooth as it will be.

after you are done, put a coat of wax back on.

I have the same problem with spray paint. When I bought the boat it already had the spray paint on there.
I've tried many of these techniques to remove it. The one that have worked involve a LOT of elbow grease.

My question is: How do you know if you are damaging the gel coat?
