removing steeringwheel from gregor console

im replacing the deck on my dads gregor pontoon boat. i have everything off except i cant get the steering wheel off from the console.ive tried tapping out with a wood dowel but no luck. do you need some type of spanner wrench or socket to remove the wheel?id appreciate any sudjestions

My experience has been .. after removing the steering wheel nut, a slight tap with a small ball peen hammer to "Shock" the wheel while pulling gently should release it from the hub.

loosen the nut, leave it on to protect the shaft, a couple of good smacks with a hammer they usually loosen up. it not get someone to pull on it, while you smack it.
