My tilt/trim just completely died. I believe it's the cause of the motor going out on it, based on the condition of the trim motor (see attached picture). I purchased a new ARCO motor to replace it with, but I am having trouble taking the old one off. The first two screws that hold the motor in place are easy to get to, but there seems to be a third screw all the way in the back with no easy way that I can see to get to it. Is there a trick to get to that screw or is it necessary to remove the outboard from the boat to take this thing off. Either way, this is poor design. What were they thinking putting that screw back there?

As a non-expert, the manual is telling me that the entire trim assembly needs to be removed for disassembly. Here is a link to the manual

On my 87 150 there are four bolts and the tilt ram pin that have to be removed to take the unit out; this is after you have raised the motor all the way up and blocked it so it can't come down. once the bolts and pin are removed the entire unit can be worked out so you can replace the motor. Use a brass drift to drive the tilt rod pin out and it does take some hefty blows to get it out. Be careful and good luck..

Two choices. 1- Remove the entire T/T unit. 2- Remove the motor from the boat.
