Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if there are any tips for removing a water pump pulley from an old 5.0 Mercruiser?

I've attached a pic to show you what it looks like. The 4 main bolts have been removed, but it's just not budging - even after I hit it a few times with a brass hammer.

Am I missing something? I couldn't find the exploded diagram for it in the Mercruiser factory service manual.

Thanks!

You could remove the pump first for better access to the pully with a brass/dead blow hammer
A product called "Free-All" , any penetrating oil and some heat . Looks like it got wet

rust would not be in the manual

spray some penetrating oil on the shaft where it comes thru the pulley, let sit for a bit

you can also gently pry between the waterpump and pulley. that will break it free.

you will need to buy a new marine waterpump for your swap to the 5.7

Some Emery cloth or sand paper may help to clean the shaft up & give it a blast with penetrating oil then it should pop right off. Might need a little pry-suasion.

Thanks everyone - yes, I have the new marine waterpump ready to go, just trying to get this off so that I can clean it up and install.

I'll have another shot at it this weekend!

Make sure the pulley isn't bent or beat up if you're re-using it.

Any little nicks in it can chew your new belt up in short order. Ask me how I know...... atleast there was no radiator to tear up when the belt broke on the boat. Unlike my truck. Lol.

Good luck.

UPDATE - hi everyone, I was able to get this pulley after a lot of Kroil and some banging with a brass hammer.

Thanks for the responses!
