Repainting aluminum boat

I have a '75 16' aluminum Duranautic boat that is in great shape except for the paint. It is not peeling off, just worn off on the sides where it has rubbed on the dock and on the inside from grit on shoes. I would like to repaint it, is there a way this can be done without removing all the existing paint and using a etching primer? I am referring to the sides and the inside of the boat not the bottom, thanks for any info.

Re: Repainting aluminum boat

depending on if theres no bare alum.and the old paint is not cracked.paint stores have cameras that take pic of old paint and come up with a paint formula for your old color.sand with 320 grit or finer.and get a good uatherne paint if funds allow if not a cheaper brand will work or base coat clear.and you might want to spray with a sealer after you sand the boat with a good 2 part sealer.they also make etching primer in spray can for small spots.you don't have to spray sealer but i like to seal old paint. i think it helps.
