I have a 2000 Larson SEI 226 with a Volvo Penta 5.7 I/O. The paint on the outdrive is starting to oxidize and flake off pretty badly and the metal below it gets this white powderlike oxidation almost instantly. (I run in both saltwater and fresh) Can you recomment what I should do to strip back the old funky paint and repaint? <br />Do I sand it? Is there a special primer I should use first? Do they make a paint that would match the color key of my outdrive so it doesn't look patchy where I repaint?

Re: repainting outdrive

thanks for the primer advice... any idea about the paint itself? I'd like to match the color of the outdrive

Stop in your local marine store ,Tempo make both primer and paint .You may want to make sure that heat is not the reason you are having problems.Large sections of white powdery residue are usually signs of heat.To strip ,the easiest way is to have it sandblasted clean and wipe it down with thinners a few times and prime.Preferrably in the sun to assist in drying and setting.Charlie
