Hello,
I guess its my turn to contribute a bit in this forum! While reaching the Internet for info on how to check the Magneto Ignition system in my Johnson Seahorse (1983 model), I bumped on a easy troubleshooting guide that gives a detailed method of checking with a digital multimeter whether your breakers, coils, condensers, flywheel magnet and cables are working fine.

The link for the PDF is here

Hope it helps!

Re: Repair Guide for Magneto Ignitions

Thats neat, I like the method of testing the condensor.

But it assumes you have a fluke meter , not the cheap type I'm likely to buy.
The fluke has a hold function which I suspect is the same as peak reading.

I recently soldered up an adapter that allows you to use a cheap meter to give peak readings, (DVA), cost very little and I got it into a matchbox sized box, it has plugs to fit standard meters.

Heres the circuit diagram, very simple to make.
Theres only a condensor, diode and a resistor, thats it.!
