repairing mercury 25HP starter

the OB is a 25HP merc from 1986. my starter was working after i bought it second hand, but after a few runs it stopped working. am i positive to assume replacing the brushes inside the starter will fix it?

it ran fine. after a few runs it would sometimes run, sometimes not, now not at all. solenoid clicks. choke works as well.

Take the starter apart may need to be cleaned.

Pull it apart and check the brushes. Mine were fine one year, then the next spring my engine would hardly turn over and I guess the one or two brushes that were still good disintegrated.

ive had such a starter earlier, and those brushes were also gone. its an old starter so its probably cleaning or replacing!
