repitch or buy a new one

Last year I purchased a 17 pitch SS Stileto prop from iboats. Unfortunately the 19 was too much for my boat only turning 5200 rpms @ WOT and after a few weeks i got one blade dinged.

Since i have to get it fixed i was wondering if i should get it repitched to 15, so i can bring the rpms up, or should i buy a new one because i will lose performance with the repitched prop?

or should i get the old prop pitched to 16 and raise the motor up a hole?

We need to know the boat and motor combination.
Are we dealing with a 17" or 19" prop? You mention both in your post.
Wouldn't hurt to know your present max rpm and speed and previous rpm and speed?

Sorry i didnt mean 19, I have a 17 pitch prop that gives me 5200 rpm WOT @ 43 mph(gps). Before the 17 ss prop I used to have a 15 aluminum. Unfortunately I didn't find out about the 15 pitch prop until after I purchased the 17 ss. The old aluminum prop was turning 5800 rpm @ 41 mph( gps).

sounds like your current setup is safer then your old 15 pitch prop if your turning 5200 rpms now with the stainless 17 pitch and your running 2 mph faster and your keeping your engine its its operating range and yet alittle better on the lower side then constantly turning high rpms ... keep it the way it is...

You are correct in thinking you need to get the rpms back up to around 5800. It sounds like you are running the Stiletto at the same height (X dimension) as you were running the aluminum prop. If we were doing your set up we'd start (as long as the Stiletto is in good shape) with raising the motor to gain performance. It very unlikely the aluminum is as efficient as the Stiletto, therefore the Stiletto can run higher which reduces drag andincreases efficiency. Try raising the motor to gain rpm rather than reducing pitch.

As far as reducing pitch on your Stiletto we try to stay away from that all together. To gain rpm they will have to basically decrease efficiency or "bite". Take advantage of the technology in the Stiletto and work with set up to gain rpm.

I'm not sure if I want to stay on the lower end of the recommended rpm range. Btw forgot to mention the motor is a 120 Johnson 1989 on a 1976 renken deep v CC.I'm wondering would my speed would drop if I use the same prop with 15 pitch?

Tnx Dhadley you are correct the prop is at the same height as the old prop. Pretty much the bottom of the transom or boat is at the height with the cav plate. I thought about raising the motor one hole and go from there but that's still a max of 150 rpms or 200-300 if I go up another hole. So I'm in the middle of the rpm range. Since the prop is bengged up I might just have it repotched to 16 and raise the motor and go from there.
