Hello fellow boaters!

Thinking of pulling up the worn carpet and replacing it with a roll-on non-slip coating. Anyone ever done this? What product? What results?

16' open bow runabout, thinking of white coating. Just purchased marine vinyl from JoAnn's for $3.98 per linear yard using a 50% off coupon :D

Thanks in advance for help, advice, heckling, etc.

I found a "rubberized" coating that cabelas sells, but I was thinking of something more like sand in the paint. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

I've seen several posts in the project boat section where this was discussed. I like the idea of either approach. Not sure yet which I'll use. I saw a picture of an old fiberglass boat where the owner used some old fashioned automotive trunk paint- the speckled stuff, and I think he sprinkled with grit for traction. Looked GREAT, and has held up well.

I don't know that you would want a sand finish on a runabout. Espicially if anyone does any swimming and comes out barefoot. I would go with the bedliner type sprays, available at most Automotive stores. Or just get herculiner... Comes in red and gray also..

web page

I removed the carpet and used some water based non sKid paint by West Marine and it worked out fine. I rolled on several coats with a foam roller.

Buttanic

Evercoat No-Skid was my weapon of choice. It can be had in various colors, awesome traction yet not harsh on bare feet, and actually intended for the marine environment. Mine has held up very well, and at $40-ish a gallon, fairly cheap. Mine took a gallon with two coats.
