I have a 50 gal tank on a 24.5 ft Bayliner 350cc ,cobra OD. The fuel outlet screen maybe clogged in the tank? Any reference to HOW to replace it safely, without blowing me up, and where I could get replacment parts via web site? WestMarine is limited.

Disconnect the fuel outlet line there on the tank.

Unscrew the fitting that holds the tube that drops down into the bottom of the tank.

Dig out the screen.

Reinstal tube.

I am in the process of doing the same thing, and yes I disconnected the battery terminals and waited for a cool breezy day, depending on where you are do it early in the morning before things heat up and vapors build. I even set up a pretty strong fan to blow fumes away while I worked. I know most of this is overkill but better safe than sorry.

And have a fire extinguisher handy! If you don't have one in the boat you are already asking for trouble.

Put the bow of the boat down so the front of the tank is lower than the back. That will prevent any fuel from coming out of the fittings when you take them out if the tank is full.
Don't even think about using teflon tape to seal the fittings when you reinstall them.

Probably a dumb answer ! If you can pull the tube out, removed the fitting and push out from the bottom. Of course i am sure it is buried. Good luck, you might be suprised how much trash, bugs, and leaves get caught in that screen. fred

If you want to hang with them guys:
The first thing you need to do is disconect or remove all safety devices, and discard all instruction manuels in sight.
Har, har, har,,,,,

But, in your immediate case--

The tank should have a ground ground wire on it near or on the guage's sending unit. Disconnecting the battery can't hurt, but I don't think it really matters.

hello
before ya start pulling things its to easy to attache a vacum gauge with a tee fitting at the pump intake. if fuel system vacum exceeds about 4"Hg at WOT then TEMPORARILY remove the antisiphon valve and retest with just a hose barb fitting, if still above 4"Hg then remove the draw tube. usually when you un thread the fitting fron the tank the tube is threaded into the fitting. not all fittings are that way however. I try not to mess with the AL to AL threads on old tanks unless its absolutly nessasary cause half the time the tank threads come out with the fitting. so a bit o troubleshooting with a 12 dollar gauge may save ya some headaches. some of the bayliner tanks are a tad difficult to access
