Replace head and gaskets

I need to remove the head a head from my 8.1 liter volvo penta. It is a 2004 fuel injected engine, my question is, do I need to have it at tdc before disassembly.

if you are just pulling the heads and intake, no. if you have to touch the cam and timing, yes. your 8.1 (gen VII BBC) does not have a traditional distributor, its coil on wire spark technology. the cam sensor and crank sensor are not touched by you pulling the heads.

Correction: I meant to say Elanders publications in Sweden, if you give them the serial number of your engine they will have a workshop manual.
