REPLACE MERC 260 DRIVE COUPLING?

Am rebuilding merc 260, has what I beleive 500 hrs. Drive coupling looks good by visual, no cracks in rubber, splines good. Do you guys think I should replace ($250.00) or run it. Trying to make things right as I go back with rebuild. What do you guys think. Thanks<br /><br />Brian

If the Splines engage the Shaft Splines with No Play,<br />Run It......<br />Couplers Rarely go Bad, without Other Problems Causing it too......<br />Misalignment,+ Lack of Grease are the main causes of failure......

hello<br /> I second bondo.<br /> they just dont fail unless the engine is out of align due to bad mounts or weak stringer or transome. or they just dont get greased. thats why the drive should come off once a year or every hundred hours. thats what I love about my job. pay now or pay later but I will get that new pair of shoes <br /> good luck and keep posting
