Hi everyone

Valve spring broke while out yesterday, managed to get a new one on today but it doesn't seem to be pulling the valve right up( about 1/8 inch lower than the rest)

Valve moves up and down freely buy hand.

Cant find a compression tester anywhere here in spain and am going home to uk on Friday

So basically just want some confirmation on what I'm thinking and that is that I have a bent valves stem.

Had to run engine to get salt water out from yesterday but did this with the suspect valve rocker off and spark plug out (hope his is ok) engine ran rough as expected but was no clattering or knocking.

What is the process of replacing a valve is just taking old one out and putting new one in or is it more complicated than that

Would really like to get it sorted before I go home on Friday

Thanks in advance

Henry

Forgot to add that when valve spring went we were at 4000 revs and it was quite noisy

Had to limp in to dock on tickover for abou 15 mins

Valve is probably bent, probably from hitting the piston. Time to pull the head and have a look.

That's what I thought Don

Is it just a case of putting a new valve in or do I need machining on the head

Probably not a bad idea to take it into a machine shop and have it checked out. At a minimum, have them inspect the guide and seat for the valve that bent.

Or, as long as it's off, it probably wouldn't be too bad of an idea to have the whole thing gone over.

Hi struc

Trouble is the boat is a holiday boat in spain an I'm only here until Friday, how long will machining take typically

The first thing you have to do is take the head off and look at what damage was done. You could have a hole in the piston as well as a bent valve.

You have to ask your machine shop, typically doesn't mean much if they can't get to it, don't have parts. Since I am in the US, I have no clue about machine shops in Spain.

Didn't even want to think about hole in piston yet lol, how my luck is going the last couple of weeks it's probably a certainty.

In spain it's always ma?ana

Head is coming off tomorrow so will let you know what I find
