Replaced frozen alt with new model replacement marine unit. Tach not working

Replaced Alt with new, now tach does not work 1989 bayliner trophy. OMC Cobra. 5.8L. They look very similar, frozen unit was Leece Neville. Marine replaced with Motorola / Leece Neville. marine units both. Can anybody help. I have looked at all the threads and have had no luck. Model 8MR2199K was the old one. New is AMO0077 with tach.

your tach should be connected to the negative side of the coil for a signal wire.

Does it have to go thru the module that drops spark when you shift?? and what does the ALT have to do with the Tach anyway?? can I just run a wire from the Tach to there coil and be GTG?
