I replaced the outdrive on my mercruiser 120hp. question 1-I had water inside when I took the outdrive off so I cleaned it up and repacked the grease in the bearing. (is that alright or should there not be water and grease mixture. I figured it was from the bad outdrive. QUESTION 2- I had a hard time replacing the new one the 4or 5inch round gasket kept falling off so I used gaket maker to help hold on but I still dont know if it slipped off after it got to the point that I could not see it. Is there anyway of checking before and after the test run. and the main gasket around the out drive ,I used the gasket maker to help there also which I got to thinking about it and thought to ask if thats good it was almost dry by the time i finally got it on so I just tightened it really good (the reason I used the gasket maker on the main gasket was the outdrive I bought was dented up where they pryed it off.
