replaced powerheads

I'm looking at buying a boat with 2003 yamaha HPDI's 200 hp. They're on a Contender that's been tournament fished and the powerheads have already been replaced. The boat sounds like a good deal - I'm just worried about the fact that the powerheads have already been replaced. Does that mean they're pretty much new engines or should I stay away from it?

Thanks

gatord96@cox.net

Re: replaced powerheads

I too would be very concerned about two powerhead failures on engines which have been very reliable if serviced and maintained properly. Even if they are basically new powerheads,it would be very unlikely that the failure was not caused by something external to the power heads themselves. I would have to know the root cause of the failures and what had been done to correct this before I personally would even consider this puchase. The likelyhood of one powerhead failing because of a problem in internal parts would be very slim. Can't imagine two of them doing so on the same boat. Only careful research will tell if it is a good deal.
