Replaced the circulating water pump, and I have a new strange sound.

My previous water pump failed on the 'muffs! (lucky me!)
I pulled it off, and it appears as though the prev. owner put an automotive circulation pump on my engine...

The bearings were rusted and had play, so I replaced it with a quicksilver pump. I spent the extra money to do it right! I think...

This pump doesn't rattle, and the pulley spins true... no wobbles, and it keeps the engine cool. BUT at idle, in the water or on muffs, I hear a swishy sound. It's loud enough to hear through the cowling, I'm not just hearing it with the cowling off.

below 900/850 RPM the sound is prominent. At a high idle or cruising it goes away. If I come off a plane on the water and idle for a moment it will return within about 20 seconds. I can sort of reproduce the sound if I spray the water hose full blast and my trailer's tire well on and off. While the engine runs like a top, this sound has me on edge.

Any ideas guys?? I'm going to try to record the sound this wk end.

Specs:

1995 Sea Ray 195BR
4.3L (2 barrel)
Alpha1 gen 2

Just rebuilt the transom plate and the entire assembly, rebuilt the carb, replaced the water pump, and changed the oil.
Engine is clearly not the original, but i've only had this boat for a year.

It's in salt water 90% of the time, I flush with salt away 99.9% of the time.

Welcome aboard.

When on the muffs and making the swish sound, sit on the doghouse. Since it goes away with the doghouse off, it may be the doghouse vibrating at lower RPMs.

I didn't word this very gracefully

" It's loud enough to hear through the cowling, I'm not just hearing it with the cowling off."

The doghouse makes it more quiet, I was trying to say "Maybe this is a normal sound I don't typically hear."

Thanks for responding though :)
